D. Ritchie Brooks

D. Ritchie Brooks is recently retired as Winston-Salem community development director. He served the city for 31 years, for which he received several accolades including a Leadership Award for service excellence and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Empowerment Award from the Ministers’ Conference of Winston-Salem and Vicinity. During his tenure, Mr. Brooks spearheaded housing preservation efforts, helped create a commercial property code and boarding house regulations, and oversaw Operation Paintbrush, a program that painted the homes of low- and moderate-income people.
