The community is stepping up for a North Carolina school district that’s in financial hot water. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools face a multi-million dollar deficit.
The shortfall is creating challenges for the district, which is the fourth largest in the state with about 50,000 students. But community members are responding with fundraising efforts.
Marni Eisner is the executive director of the Education Foundation for the district, which is coordinating the community response.
“We are constantly meeting as we are thinking about what is needed urgently, right now, in the short term,” said Eisner, “but then also convening with other community partners, and organizations, and businesses about long term strategies to really support the schools through this difficult time.”
Her organization’s campaign, All In For Our Schools, is leading efforts with organizational partnerships and fundraisers, including $1.4 million for school supplies needed immediately.
