Erin Yates, the special assistant to the president at the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, has been committed to helping financially disadvantaged individuals since she served as an AmeriCorps VISTA at a high poverty elementary school in North Charleston, South Carolina after college. After working as a VISTA, she pursued her commitment by serving as an advocate for children in the foster care system in New York, as well as overseeing social media for a start-up nonprofit. Erin is no novice to philanthropy—prior to joining the Trust in 2015, she worked as the grants manager at The Campion Foundation and the grants assistant at The Norman Foundation. She began her work at the Trust as program coordinator and was promoted to her current role in 2017. As special assistant to the president, she serves as a key liaison for both internal and external matters, spearheads special projects and events, and provides administrative support to the president and other staff members.
Originally from upstate New York, Erin earned a Master of Public Administration from Bernard Baruch College. She also holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Siena College. Erin chose to move to Winston-Salem after living in New York and Seattle. Erin happily admits the North Carolina weather played a role in her decision, as she enjoys running and generally spending her free time outdoors.
