Healthy Places NC Funding Opportunity

Building Equitable Food Systems in Eastern North Carolina

Many rural regions in our state have plentiful land but inadequate access to healthy food and recreation opportunities. Loss of land in communities of color, lack of food processing capacity, insufficient protections for farmworkers, and cuts to nutrition assistance programs leave communities little control over food systems in their region. The Trust is interested in supporting organizations and networks that are pushing to increase local ownership of the food system.

Steps to Apply

Overview

Goal

Leverage local organizations and networks, especially those based in financially vulnerable regions and communities of color, to promote equity in food and recreation systems, substance misuse, and adverse childhood experiences.

Strategy

Build community, network, organizational, and individual capacity so that historically marginalized populations, particularly Black, Immigrant, Indigenous, and other leaders of color can drive community and health improvement efforts.

Conduct broad-based communications, community education, and advocacy efforts that advance goals.
