Southeastern Regional Medical Center

Programmatic funds to pilot an expanded non-emergency medical transportation project using volunteer drivers recruited through the faith network in Robeson County. Currently, case managers based at the hospital refer patients to volunteers who give rides to Southeastern clinics. The program engages four volunteer drivers. The goal is to add four additional drivers and use sophisticated routing and ride scheduling software to coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs for high-risk patients. This small-scale test will help the hospital track improvements in no-show rates and health outcome measures while smoothing operational issues. Funding will cover mileage reimbursement to drivers, some salaries, and the scheduling software.
