PEP produces both total population estimates and estimates by age, sex, and race and ethnicity. The estimates are updated annually and are available for a range of years, from 2010 until the most recent year for which data are available.
In addition to birth and death records, migration data, and administrative records, the estimates are also based on information collected through the decennial census and other surveys. Users can access measures on the size and distribution of the U.S. population, such as age and sex distribution (percent and count).
It can be used for a variety of purposes, such as tracking shifting demographics, learning about the local communities, establishing priorities to allocate funding and resources effectively, and for research and advocacy work.
