The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Interactive Tools
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) data source provides dataset topics on the CMS program and payment, provider and beneficiary characteristics. For example, it has look-up tools on Medicare inpatient hospitals by Provider and Services, which includes inpatient discharge data for Original Medicare Part A beneficiaries by Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) hospitals. In addition, the interactive map tools of Medicare disparities by Population or Hospital provide health outcome measures for disease prevalence, costs of care, and hospitalization quality.
It is user-friendly to compare measures at the hospital, county, state, territory, and national levels.
- By selecting “Population View”, users can explore over 20 chronic conditions by age, race/ethnicity, and sex, or can compare differences between two geographic areas or two subgroups.
- By selecting “Hospital View”, users have access to measures, such as Medicare spending, patient experience, and readmission rates by hospital type, size, and geography at a county, state, or national level.
The MMD tool is available in Spanish. Besides interactive maps, there are dashboards that, for example, show the prevalence of 21 chronic conditions (this includes: Alcohol Abuse Prevalence, Alzheimer’s Disease/Dementia Prevalence, Arthritis Prevalence, Asthma Prevalence, Atrial Fibrillation Prevalence, Autism Spectrum Disorders Prevalence, Cancer Prevalence, Chronic Kidney Disease Prevalence, COPD Prevalence, Diabetes Prevalence, Drug Abuse/Substance Abuse Prevalence. HIV/AIDS Prevalence, Heart Failure Prevalence, Hepatitis Prevalence, Hyperlipidemia Prevalence, Hypertension Prevalence, Ischemic Heart Disease Prevalence, Osteoporosis Prevalence, Stroke Prevalence) by State and comparisons of geographic areas among the Medicare population.
