The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust has invested more than $5.2 million in immediate, flexible funding to respond to COVID-19 in Forsyth County and throughout North Carolina.

Trust investments include grants to support the following critical work:

  • Health Care Delivery System. Hospitals and associated clinics, free clinics, and health centers regularly see Medicaid, Medicare, and uninsured patients. Shoring up these organizations during this crisis continues to be a vital component in the overall strategy to mitigate and limit the effects of the virus.
  • Local and Statewide Community Foundations. Many community foundations are providing grants to nonprofits to meet the basic needs of vulnerable residents including people without health insurance, those experiencing homelessness, immigrants, and rural communities.
  • Local Health Departments. Health departments require additional capacity to respond to COVID-19. This includes increased testing, tracking and reporting cases, coordinating a response at the state and local levels, and working to protect the populations most at risk of acquiring COVID-19.
  • Grassroots Groups and Priority Populations. Grassroots groups and other nonprofits locally and around the state are working to ensure marginalized populations can participate in conversations about what is needed during the crisis and access timely information. This includes Latino-led organizations working to get accurate information to their communities; news organizations that reach residents with low-incomes or communities with few news resources; and institutions working with formerly incarcerated individuals.

Working closely with its trustee, Wells Fargo, the Trust released $1.5 million in immediate grant funding in March. Between May and November, the Trust has invested an additional $3.7 million to help North Carolina residents and communities address the challenges that have arisen as a result of COVID-19.

While responding to urgent needs, the Trust is also focused on mid-term and long-term recovery and reform efforts related to COVID-19, making the Trust’s overarching goal to increase access to health care, achieve equitable health outcomes, and build a more inclusive economy more important than ever to address longstanding inequities.
