This blog post describes researchers’ methodology for calculating a Youth Opportunity indicator using the American Community Survey microdata or individual record data. The Opportunity Youth indicator is an update to the Youth Disconnect Indicator on the MyFutureNC dashboard and now includes youth ages 16-24 versus ages 16-19. The MyFutureNC dashboard is a collaboration between MyFutureNC and Carolina Demography and shows the state progress towards the 2030 goal for postsecondary educational attainment.

This tool can be used to understand how to calculate a Youth Opportunity indicator using the American Community Survey microdata or individual record data.
